It used to be that whoever had the most minutes and most messaging at decent enough rates was the thing to look for when choosing a carrier, but these days with people being more mobile and traveling, international roaming seems to be grabbing more focus. While Verizon announced earlier today that they’re going to be the first carrier to offer roaming inside of Cuba starting sometime next week, Sprint today, has announced that they have recently added 33 new locations into their ‘Open World’ program which allows subscribers to browse the web at high speeds and make phone calls at great rates, and send messages completely free in the supported regions that are part of Open World.
As for where these locations are, Sprint has added France, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Bonaire, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Curacao, Dominica, Fiji, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Montserrat, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, St. Barthelemy, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Suriname, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Vanuatu. This is in addition to the already existing locations Sprint had included within Open World, such as the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Mexico, and Canada which all allow for unlimited free calls and text, and 1GB of high-speed data.
For the 33 new countries added to Open World today, texting is unlimited, while calls are $0.20 a minute, and subscribers pay by the GB for data at the cost of $30 per GB. For customers who travel often, this makes Sprint a more desirable choice of carrier as current top carrier AT&T and Verizon wireless offer no free international calling. Sprint also appears to have a leg up when compared to T-Mobile who is said to only offer free international calling to two different countries. Sprint Open World is available for free and does not cost anything extra on top of your monthly plan costs, but Sprint does state that customers have to be qualified to add it to their plan. The only costs then, come from what you based on the rates for the countries you’re in.
