T-Mobile has never been one to shy away from a battle of wits with other rival carriers, and this can usually be seen in their commercials. Sometimes the marketing is straightforward and addresses the carriers in which the ads attack, other times they tend to be a little more subtle, but they almost always tend to go for a cool, or funny approach. Such is the case with T-Mobile’s latest ad which takes aim at Verizon’s recent commercial involving geese. While it involves poking a little fun at Verizon Wireless in the process, the goal of the ad is to alert customers and would-be potential customers to the improvements made to T-Mobile’s LTE coverage.
While Verizon’s ad was focused on downplaying T-Mobile’s network coverage and promoting their $300 switch back offer, it also centered around the geese entirely with a smooth sounding narrator with a British accent. T-Mobile’s ad pokes fun by introducing the very same thing while also telling customers to “think again” if they think they know T-Mobile’s LTE network. There’s no doubt that T-Mobile has been improving their coverage for quite some time and they want people to know it extends to their LTE coverage too. Things of note in the ad include highlighting that T-Mobile has improved their Extended Range LTE by up to two times so it reaches twice as far as before, and coverage strength inside of buildings has been improved by up to four times.
T-Mobile has been on a mission to improve every aspect of their network from plans to coverage, to data speeds and device offerings, and they point out that they continue to improve while also growing faster than any other network in the industry. At the moment the extended range LTE covers only about 170 markets, but T-Mobile states they expect that by the end of this year will more than double to a total of 350 markets. It’s also worth noting that T-Mobile subscribers will likely have to use a phone which supports Extended Range LTE which is essentially band 12, and not all devices have band 12 support. The good news is that most newer devices likely will, and all customers will have to do is talk to someone at a store or over the phone to figure that out.
