Upleaks Outs the Motorola Droid Turbo 2

We’ve been hearing about the Droid Turbo 2 for Verizon, and it’s almost time for it to be announced. Last year, Verizon announced it in October, so it’s approaching that one-year status now. When Motorola announced their new portfolio of products at their July 28th event, they stated that the new Moto X Play was not coming to the US. And many of us believed that was because it was going to make its way over here as a DROID for Verizon. And it looks like that is true.

This morning, Upleaks posted a picture of the Droid Turbo 2, and it looks eerily similar to the Moto X Play. The one difference that we noticed, however, is that the speaker grill at the bottom is different. Instead of being on speaker it looks like it was separated with the Verizon logo in the middle. Well not quite the entire Verizon logo, as all we can see is the check mark there. There’s also the DROID Logo on the back. Otherwise this looks exactly like the Moto X Play.

While it may look similar to the Moto X Play, it may not come with the same specs as the Moto X Play. It’ll be hard to believe that after having the Snapdragon 805 in the original Droid Turbo that Verizon would opt for the mid-range Snapdragon 615 in this generation. We’re likely going to see either the Snapdragon 808 or the 810 come in the Droid Turbo 2.

Last year, the Droid Turbo was one of my favorite phones, and actually it is still one of my favorites. Featuring that large 3900mAh battery inside, the 21MP Sony sensor on the back and a Snapdragon 805 processor, not to mention that 2560×1440 resolution AMOLED display at just 5.2-inches, made for an amazing phone. It’s going to be hard for Verizon and Motorola to top that this year, but it looks like they are definitely going to try and top it, as they should. I’d expect a DROID announcement from big red in the next month or so. Likely before the end of October. And I’m sure Verizon users are pretty excited about this.
