DROID Maxx 2 Leak Reveals Removable Back Covers

Over the last couple of weeks there have been more and more details pointing to the DROID Maxx 2 being on its way, with a reference to the phone on the Chromecast support page a couple of weeks back, and just earlier this morning a reference to the phone was made by Motorola in some screenshots for one of their applications in the Play Store. As of now there is a new leak for the DROID Maxx 2 which popped up on Motorola’s own website showing details of what look to be an image from the phone’s manual, although the leak has since disappeared from Motorola’s website, and upon visiting it users will be greeted with a 404 error that the page doesn’t exist.

Motorola and Verizon are slated, or rather expected to announce and unveil the Motorola DROID Maxx 2 at a Verizon Wireless event to be held in New York on October 27th. That’s just a couple of weeks away so it won’t be long before official shots of the phone show up and alongside official specifications and hardware, as well as Verizon;s details for availability and pricing. Before Motorola removed the leak of the device, screenshots were captured showing that the DROID Maxx 2 looks to be coming with a removable back cover, so users will be able to change out the backs for customizable colors to suit their personal tastes. The backs are also slated to come with a range of different design for a unique look and giving customers even more options.

While there’s no confirmation on it just yet, rumors are already pegging the DROID Maxx 2 as a Verizon Wireless variant of the Moto X Play that Motorola unveiled back during IFA in the beginning of last month. If this is the case then Verizon customers can likely expect a similar listing of specifications, including 2GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, as well as the 5.5-inch display with a Full HD 1080p resolution. What Verizon subscribers shouldn’t be expecting is a device with a powerful hardware set as the Moto X Play is supposed to be more of a mid-range device, and the power and performance is likely being reserved for the DROID Turbo 2, which is also expected to be announced at the event.
