Now that Android 6.0 Marshmallow has been released, we expect to hear which devices will get the update. Some Nexus devices are already getting the update since they get it directly from Google. So far, HTC, Motorola and Sony have published lists of the devices that are going to be updated. The support page for LG suggested some of the devices that will be updated and the list of Samsung devices that are meant to get Marshmallow got leaked a while ago, though it hasn’t been officially confirmed by the company. Whatever the case, the lists are considered preliminary, so things might change a little bit over time.
Now, Sam Mobile, got some insider information about some Samsung devices that are being tested with Marshmallow. Most variants of the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 are listed, which shouldn’t come as a surprise given that all of them were released this year. The list includes some of the models that were released last year as well, including some variants of the Galaxy S5 and its LTE-A version, the Galaxy Note 4 from Europe as well as the Verizon version will get it too as well as the Galaxy Note Edge from Verizon. Perhaps the most surprising device on the list is the Galaxy S5 Neo, even though only the European version is listed, it was more of a mid-range device by the time it got released. Not every phone is listed, maybe more carrier-locked versions will be added over the next months and notably, there’s not a single tablet on that list.
There’s not much difference from the list that got leaked before, the Galaxy S5 Neo was added while the Galaxy Alpha is not currently listed. As for the tablets, only the Galaxy Tab A was listed, but it would be shocking if the Galaxy Tab S2 tablets didn’t make the cut, not only because those tablets got released after the others, but because they are the flagship models. Samsung hasn’t mentioned a specific date to start rolling out the update, but it will probably happen on early 2016 as the process is not as simple as it might seem.
