Samsung may not be have had the best of times in the first half of this calendar year in terms of smartphone sales, but that isn’t stopping the South Korea-based consumer electronics giant from carrying on its product launching spree. The company already has a number of lineups for its Galaxy brand of smartphones, including, but not limited to, the ‘S’ range at the premium end of the spectrum, the Note lineup of large screened high-end handsets, the recently launched ‘A’ range comprising of devices like the Galaxy A8 and the A9, alongside the mid-range and entry-level ‘J’ and ‘E’ series phones which are aimed squarely at emerging markets for the most part.
Samsung has already launched the Galaxy J1 and the Galaxy J2 entry-level smartphones earlier in the year, and if latest reports are to be believed, the company is now fixing to launch a third handset as part of its Galaxy ‘J’ lineup. That’s because a brand new device with the model number SM-J3109 has now simultaneously showed up on the GFXBench and Geekbench databases, giving us a pretty good look at the hardware specs of the upcoming handset from Samsung.
Coming to the hardware specs of the device as evident from the two listings, the handset will feature a 5-inch 720p display panel, which will very likely be of the AMOLED variety, seeing as both the Galaxy J1 and the Galaxy J2 sports AMOLED displays. The device will be powered by a Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 SoC from Qualcomm, which brings with it, a 64-bit, quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU and an Adreno 306 GPU. Going by the listed specs on the GFX Bench database, the smartphone will most likely come with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage, and run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop straight out of the box, most likely with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz interface laid on top.
Coming to the imaging options on Samsung’s upcoming smartphone, the device will sport an 8-megapixel rear camera with Full HD 1080p video recording capabilities, whereas the front camera will have a 5-megapixel sensor, which will also be capable of recording Full HD 1080p videos. The device will also apparently come with an NFC chip, meaning it will support Samsung Pay out of the box, not to mention other options like Android Pay etc.
