Since last week, we have been following reports that Samsung is in the works to launch a new smartphone, the Galaxy A9, together with new versions of current phones belonging to the A series – Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7. Earlier this year, the company trademarked the names A6, A8 and A9 and about a month ago we saw the launch of the Galaxy A8. To make things better, SamMobile has just spotted that some components belonging to the purported new device have just landed in India for testing, giving us some solid clues that the device is coming indeed.
The components were spotted on Zauba, India’s import and export data website, famous for containing shipment information about Samsung devices. The company brought items like the SIM tray, cover glass, and the main board. As you can see in the image below, the model name is the SM-A9000. This is a hot clue, since the Galaxy A8 has the model number SM-A8000, and the A7, guess, SM-A700*, and the same happens to the other models. We still don’t have any leaked information on what Samsung has in mind for this device, but by following the numbering sequence and the A8 specs, it should be a big phone. The A8 is a really thin device with a Full HD, 5.7 inches screen, powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 2 GB of RAM and a 16-megapixel camera, everything wrapped on a metal unibody.
The company is also believed to be working on upgraded versions of the current A3, A5 and A7 phones, as the first two were released a year ago. The devices have been spotted carrying the model numbers SM-A310F, SM-A510F and SM-A710F for Russia, and SM-A5100, SM-A7100 for China. These are similar to the current models, meaning that the new phones are likely to be a small upgrade from previous models. Unfortunately, this is all the information we have so far regarding these new A-series phones from the Korean giant. As for the Galaxy A9, the fact that Samsung is still testing some components could mean that the handset is still a couple of months away, so, stay tuned for more news.
