Xiaomi has unveiled a number of interesting handsets this year, including their Mi Note and Mi Note Pro phablets which were announced back in January. This company was expected to showcase their new Mi 5 flagship a while back, but that hasn’t happened yet. The Mi 4 was unveiled back in July 2014, so it seems a bit odd Xiaomi still didn’t announce its successor. It is possible this China-based smartphone OEM is holding out until a Helio X20 or Snapdragon 820 SoC becomes available. The Helio X20 is expected to launch before the end of this year, and the Snapdragon 820 in Q1 2016.
Now, the Mi 5 has still not launched, and we’re getting closer to the Mi Note 2 launch timeframe. The Mi Note 2 is expected to arrive in January 2016, and according to leaks thus far, this smartphone will pack in some serious firepower. A recent leak claimed that the device will be made entirely out of metal, and today we have some new info to share with you. According to a new report out of China, the Mi Note 2 phablet might launch sooner than expected. The report claims that the phablet will be unveiled next month, but keep in mind that this is just a rumor at this point, nothing else.
According to previous leaks, the Mi Note 2 will feature a 5.7-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display along with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. The phablet might also ship with a built-in Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner which was rumored to be a part of the Mi 5 as well. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC was mentioned to fuel this phablet in earlier leaks, but if Xiaomi truly intends to launch this thing next month, there’s no way Snapdragon 820 will be a part of the package. The 16-megapixel shooter was also mentioned in some previous leaks, as well as Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but that’s somewhat unrealistic. Google officially released Marshmallow along with Nexus device which debuted recently, and it will take Xiaomi some time to release a new Marshmallow-powered version of MIUi. Some sources are claiming that the phablet will ship with a Helio X10 SoC on the inside, but that’s hard to believe, Xiaomi will quite probably opt for a more powerful SoC like the Helio X20.
