Sony announced the Xperia Z5 at IFA in September to an audience of eager enthusiasts. The Xperia Z5 was what the public was wanting to see from Sony…especially the Xperia Z5 Premium. Nothing official was mentioned where you would be able to buy the new device or what kind of price range Sony was thinking. However, today, Sony announced it is bring the Xperia Z5 to Canada as an exclusive on the Bell network. Pricing on Bell’s network will be $199.95 on a two-year contract and $649.95 to purchase it outright – sales start on October 29, although Bell’s website simply says “Coming Soon.” The Xperia Z5 will be available to order in either Black or White…our two favorite colors.
The Sony Xperia Z5 comes from a ‘family’ made up of the Z5 Compact and a Z5 Premium – and there is no word whether they will make their way to Canada – but we are looking at the middle family member…only the Xperia Z5. There is no mistaken it for anything but a Sony Xperia device with its metal frame and glass top (display) and bottom. It retains the same ‘squared off’ look, although with the rolled metal sides holding everything together, it is still comfortable enough in your hand. The Xperia Z5 retains Sony’s IP68 dust and water resistance of 1.5 meters deep up until 30 minutes. The newest addition to the design is a built-in fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device and the ability to authorize mobile payments when it receives its Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade – it comes bearing Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
The Xperia Z5 will come with a 5.2-inch IPS LCD FHD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 428 pixels-per-inch (PPI). The brain is a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 with four cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four cores clocked at 2.0 GHz with an Adreno 430 GPU. It comes packing 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory with a microSD card slot allowing you to expand an additional 128GB of memory. The excellent main camera is a huge 23MP with phase detection autofocus and LED flash…still no OIS. The front-facing camera (FFC) is 5.1MP for selfies and video chatting. Power is supplied by a 2900 mAh battery that Sony claims will last you two days and it has Quick Charge capabilities with the proper cable.
