VPN One Click is an Android app that wants to make it as easy as possible to get access to a VPN, a Virtual Private Network, which not only changes your IP address, but also allows you to access geo-restricted content. So, for instance someone in Spain would be able to view US-only websites and watch US-only TV online. VPN One Click allows users to simply choose from a list of countries and change their IP to one from that country. These countries include: USA, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Singapore, India, Egypt, Russia, Sweden, Spain, Turkey, Hong Kong, Japan, Romania, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Iceland, Panama, Chile, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Austria. VPN One Click is free to use, with unlimited bandwidth, but for those looking to connect to certain countries there’s a monthly subscription fee.
As with other apps on Android, getting started is as simple as downloading VPN One Click from the Play Store. When you first launch the app, your own public IP will be displayed. I have blurred mine out (for obvious reasons) but I can confirm this is my actual Public IP.
I have a couple of choices here, I can go ahead and choose to connect to an entirely random server from anywhere around the world, or I can go ahead and choose a country deliberated. I went ahead and chose Sweden. You have to agree to pump all your traffic through the app for a VPN to work of course, so that’s something to be aware of.
When you’re connect to a VPN, you can see the status of your connection in among your other notifications.
The app then reported that I was in fact in Sweden and that my Public IP had changed.
I wanted to check to see if the app actually worked of course, so I used an independent website to verify this, and I was happy to say that yes, VPN One Click had genuinely worked for me, I was now located in Sweden. At least that’s what the Internet thought, anyway.
Taking a look at the bottom of the list on the home page, you’ll see some links to social media platforms, as well as the option to subscribe to their premium options.
What isn’t so clear here, is just what that subscription is getting you, while it is explained that this will get you access to specific countries, it is not explained further. You’re simply asked how you would like to pay for this, and there’s no option to pay through safe Google Play in-app purchase, sadly.
VPN One Click is the latest in a long line of VPN solutions, but it’s not the most fully-featured out there, but that’s by design. What’s nice about this offering is that it’s designed for people that know what they want to do, but not necessarily how to do it. By that I mean there are many people that want to browse as if they’re located in another country, but they don’t care how that works, by clicking – for instance – “United States” from the list, users like these will be able to connect as they’d like without needing to know anything more, other than it just works. Using a VPN is a great idea not just for getting access to geo-restricted content, but also for protecting your identity and keeping your information secure and encrypted. For those that rely on public WiFi or unprotected networks, something like this is a must.
Ratings
- Speed (4/5) – Everything here runs nice and smoothly, and setting up a new VPN connection is genuinely speedy.
- Features (4/5) – While this might not feature all the same sort of features as other VPN apps, this is designed to be much, much easier to use and it really is.
- Theme (3.5/5) – Presentation could be better, but then again this is so simple that you won’t be spending much time in the app anyway.
- Overall (4/5) – It’s simple, easy-to-use, offers up some quality free options and is cheap when premium subscriptions are concerned.
Pros
- Lots of different countries to choose from, all neatly laid out in one big list.
- It really does take just one click on your chosen country to get connected from that location.
- Unlimited bandwidth, even with the free options.
- Doesn’t impact your speed whatsoever.
Cons
- Premium subscriptions aren’t neatly explained to the user.
- Favorites list of only a few countries would neaten things up and make it quicker to find your most used places.
VPN One Click might not be the sort of VPN app that every user will appreciate, but for those that want something that “just works” and don’t want to ask questions, this little app is great. I do wish that the subscription models were better explained, but the free option is very appealing here, and this is the sort of neat, free app that will empower people to do more with the web.
