Now that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is being released for the Nexus phones, we expect to hear from other companies about their plans to update their devices. Some companies like HTC and Motorola have officially communicated some of the devices that are set to get this update. Some LG devices are showing the update in the support page and the list of some of the Samsung devices that would be updated were leaked a while ago. The process of updating to the latest Android version might take some time, as Google releases the code so that the companies can start adding some features or modifying some of the functionality in an attempt to make it better than what the stock version offers. After that, it’s up to the carriers to test what the companies have sent them to ensure that their locked devices work as they should.
Now, T-Mobile has published a list of their devices that will get the update, detailing the stage of the update for each device on their official software update support page. The Manufacturer Development stage is where companies are modifying or customizing the OS, then there is T-Mobile Testing and finally, when it’s marked as Completed, the devices will start getting the update. Even then, not all of the devices will get it at the same time as software updates are rolled out in a staggered push. The list includes the HTC One M8 and HTC One M9, LG’s G3, G4 and G Stylo. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Tab S2 and even the older Galaxy S5 are all getting the update. The list also includes LG’s Nexus 5, Motorola’s Nexus 6, ASUS’ Nexus 7 LTE model and HTC’s Nexus 9, but Google should take care of updating those.
Unsurprisingly, all of the devices are on the first stage, except for the Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 9 which are on the Completed stage. The Nexus 6 is apparently waiting for T-Mobile’s approval, which is likely due to the integration of T-Mobile’s WiFi calling in the device . Sony’s Xperia Z3 is missing from the list, so it’s entirely possible that the T-Mobile Xperia Z3 may be stuck on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Other devices from their portfolio are mid-rangers, so they are less likely to get the update.
