A partnership through Telefonica and BQ has allowed the Cyanogen Aquarius X5 handset to make its way into Europe. The device will mark as the first Cyanogen-powered smartphone to release within Europe through a mobile operator and according to the main Telefonica website, both Telefonica and BQ have been working together over the past few months to bring the Cyanogen OS device within Europe’s market. Both Spanish companies believe that the Cyanogen operating system offers a more customizable experience with higher levels of security and privacy. The Aquarius X5 smartphone features a 5-inch display with a 13-megapixel camera located within the rear of the device while the front holds a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Opening up the device you’ll find that the handset is being powered by a Snapdragon 412 processor with 2 GB of RAM whereas the internal storage can hold 16 GB of files, pictures, and applications along with other media. It’s worth pointing out that the storage for the Aquarius X5 can be expanded upon if a consumer purchases a microSD card. As for the battery life, the Aquarius X5 comes paired with a 2900 mAh battery.
Of course, the main calling card for the Aquarius X5 happens to be the operating system it’s running. Instead of a vanilla Android experience, the handset will instead run Cyanogen OS 12.1. Cyanogen is a popular alternative firmware option to the Android most consumers are familiar with, as it allows consumers to have a few more options to tweak with compared to the standard Android experience. One of these new features included is LiveDisplay, a means for the device to automatically adjust your smartphone display according to the time of day and how much light is available. Additionally, the latest Cyanogen OS 12.1 update includes a new browser that is said to be a faster experience than before. While Cyanogen does stand out to Android, consumers will not have to look for another source for applications and media. The operating system Cyanogen does support Google Play and the available applications within the app store.
