Xiaomi Mi 5 is one of the most anticipated flagships at the moment. Many people expected Xiaomi to announce this device back in July, but considering Xiaomi wanted to wait for the Snapdragon 820 / Helio X20 SoC to become available, that didn’t happen. The Xiaomi Mi 5 is said to be announced in January next year, and Xiaomi’s CEO has basically confirmed that the announcement is close. He has also said that he’s currently using the device, and that it is ‘amazing’.
Now, a new Xiaomi Mi 5 leak surfaced in China, and it seemingly reveals Mi 5’s single-core benchmark result. This info has surfaced on @Leaksfly’s Weibo (Chinese social network) account, and it reports that the Snapdragon 820-powered handset scored 2,300 points in benchmarks. Now, there’s no proof that this benchmark actually exists, the source did not attach any images to his post or anything of the sort, so take this info with a grain of salt, as usual.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 will quite probably going to be fueled by the Snapdragon 820 SoC, but the Helio X20 is also a possibility, we’ve seen rumors report both chips in Mi 5’s case. Either way, you can expect this handset to be made out of metal, and to sport a fingerprint scanner. We still don’t know what will it look like considering we haven’t seen any such leaks lately, but it will be interesting to see if Xiaomi intends to step away from their current design language. It might be time for the company to ditch the capacitive buttons altogether, or at least the ‘menu’ key.
According to rumors, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will feature a 5.2-5.5” QHD display along with 3/4GB of RAM and multiple internal storage variants. The phone will quite probably going to be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC, and the 21-megapixel camera will be located on its back. Android 5.1 Lollipop is expected to come pre-installed on this handset with Xiaomi’s MIUI OS on top of it, though the Android 6.0 Marshmallow is also a possibility, even though it’s hard to believe that will happen so soon. There you have it, the Xiaomi Mi 5’s announcement is rather close at this point, but we’ll see more leaks / rumors before the company announces this handset, that’s for sure.
