Xiaomi Mi 5 has got to be one of the most talked about devices this year. The company’s upcoming flagship was expected to be announced back in July, but the company has decided to postpone the announcement because it seems like they’re waiting for the Snapdragon 820 or Helio X20 to become available. A rumor which surfaced earlier today stated that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will arrive in the first quarter of next year, and that’s kind of a safe assumption at the moment. Xiaomi has held an event yesterday under the name ‘the Grand Finale’, which suggests they don’t intend to hold another such event before the year’s end.
That being said, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, has released a statement to Chinese media. He didn’t reveal any details regarding Mi 5’s launch, but he did say that the phone is definitely worth waiting for. The company’s CEO has also added that Xiaomi intends to release future smartphones at shorter intervals, which is rather interesting, it seems like we’ll be seeing a lot of Xiaomi-branded smartphones launched next year. Anyhow, Lei Jun has also confirmed that Xiaomi’s primary focus is, and will remain China, and India, Indonesia and Brazil will follow. As you probably already know, a couple of Xiaomi’s handsets were certified by the FCC, and Xiaomi’s exec has already hinted that the company will enter the US smartphone market soon. Well, Lei Jun has said that it might take some time before that happens, but it looks like that will happen next year for sure.
I’m sure you’re wondering what specs will Xiaomi Mi 5 sport. Well, according to a number of leaks the phone will ship with a 5.2-5.5” display, 3/4GB of RAM and more than one internal storage option. The 20.7-megapixel camera is expected to be located on the back of this handset, and the phone will be made out of metal. ‘Force Touch’ display is a possibility here, but we’re still not sure about that. Now, the phone will almost certainly going to sport a fingerprint scanner, and will be more affordable than similarly specced devices, which we’re used to from Xiaomi. Keep in mind that these are rumored specifications, so nothing is certain just yet.
