Li Nan: Meizu Didn't Sell 20 Million Phones In 2015, Yet

Meizu is one of the fastest-growing smartphone manufacturers in the world. This China-based smartphone OEM has been releasing really compelling devices in China, and their prices have been quite affordable as well. The company has released several mid-range and two high-end devices this year, all of which have been in high demand in China. In order to put things into perspective, Meizu has managed to sell 8.9 million devices in the first half of this year, and basically increased their sales 540% year-on-year, which is quite staggering.

The company has set a sales goal for themselves this year, they intend to sell 20 million devices before the end of the year, and some sources have suggested that Meizu already sold over 20 million units. Well, the company’s VP decided to refute that. Li Nan has released a post via his official Weibo (Chinese social network) account saying that the company still didn’t reach the 20 million sales number this year. Meizu still aims to hit their sales target, and considering their sales numbers thus far the might, but they’re still not there. The holiday season is coming and it will be interesting to see if they’ll make it.

Meizu PRO 5 is the company’s latest flagship, and it was announced back in September. This phablet actually sports really high-end specifications and is made out of metal. Interesting enough, this is the only device, aside from 4 Samsung handsets, which is fueled by the 14nm Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor. Meizu’s ‘Blue Charm’ or ‘M’ line of devices, as it’s called internationally, is still the company’s best-selling line of devices. Their M2 and M2 Note devices which have been announced this year are selling really well it seems, and account for over half of company’s sales in 2015, which was to be expected.

It is also worth mentioning that Meizu has managed to crawl their way into top 10 manufacturers in China as far as market share is concerned. Meizu was nowhere to be found last year, but this year they actually occupate 7th place in China, right below Samsung. Considering how many devices they sell in China a year, Meizu could easily jump over Samsung in 2016, but we’ll see.
