Music superstar Rihanna has had a pretty remarkable career thus far. From her massive early hits like ‘Umbrella’, ‘Shut Up and Drive’, ‘Rude Boy’, ‘Disturbia’ etc. to newer singles like the popular but controversial ‘Better Have My Money’, she’s been one of the most widely recognizable faces of the music industry in the second decade of the twenty-first century. Thanks to her popularity amongst the teens and tweens, she’s also, at various stages, been the spokesperson for brands like Puma, Nivea and Topshop, and has recently even signed up to be the brand ambassador for high street fashion label Dior. While music may not be the only thing that keeps her in the limelight, there’s always a massive interest whenever a new album of hers is about to drop, and that time is upon us again.
The Barbados-born singer is expected to launch her eighth studio album called ‘Anti’ on November 27th, and promotions for the same are on in full swing. On Thursday, her home label ‘Roc Nation’, part-owned by hip hop mogul Jay Z, unveiled a website for her new album, called antidiary.com, as part of the high-voltage promotional campaign surrounding her upcoming album, although, there’s no real info about her music on the site at the moment. What is however noticeable, is the presence of a Samsung logo displayed on the home page of the site, front and center. Now as reported earlier, Samsung has already signed a $25 million deal with Rihanna and ‘Roc Nation’ to sponsor her upcoming ‘Anti’ world tour in what has been described as one of the largest marketing deals of its kind in the history of the music industry.
Samsung’s association with Jay Z’s ‘Roc Nation’ of course, goes back even further. The music label has reportedly worked closely with Samsung earlier as well, with the two having signed a $5 million marketing deal in 2013 for Jay Z’s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ album. As part of the deal, Samsung offered one million of its customers free downloads of the album via the Jay Z Magna Carta app on the Galaxy S III and other Samsung devices. Samsung meanwhile, has also reportedly dropped a pretty penny for product placements in the upcoming movie ‘Zoolander 2’, as well as Ms. Arianna Grande’s latest music video, ‘Focus’. As for the upcoming ‘Anti’ from Rihanna, the album is expected to expected to drop November 27th, as mentioned already, but some reports claim that it will hit Jay Z’s ‘Tidal’ music streaming service first, before getting a wider release a week later.
