Xiaomi Mi 5's Alleged Display Leaks, Shows Thin Bezels

Xiaomi has been one of the most frequently mentioned smartphone OEMs this year. This China-based smartphone manufacturer has released quite a few devices, and has started selling them in some additional markets. The company has released the Mi Note, Mi Note Pro, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3, Mi 4i, Mi 4c… and a number more handsets this year. Xiaomi has also rolled out some interesting smart gadgets, but what most of us are looking forward to (as far as Xiaomi is concerned), is the company’s upcoming flagship, the Mi 5. This smartphone was expected to be announced back in July, but considering Xiaomi decided to wait for Qualcomm to release the Snapdragon 820, the Mi 5 still hasn’t been announced.

According to latest reports, the Mi 5 will arrive in January next year. Xiaomi has held a press conference recently where they unveiled the Redmi Note 3 and the Mi Pad 2. The name of that conference was ‘The Grand Finale’, which suggests that Xiaomi doesn’t intend to release anything before the end of the year, or at least not anything high-profile as the Mi 5. Anyhow, we haven’t seen many Mi 5 leaks in the last couple of weeks, but one did surface quite recently, allegedly showing off the upcoming device in a real life image. That smartphone actually resembles the Mi Note quite a bit, and we’re not sure the leak is legit, but it did appear. Well, a new leak surfaced quite recently as well, allegedly showcasing the Mi 5’s display. If you take a look at the provided image, you’ll get to see a display with really thin side bezels, the black bars are present here, but they’re so thin that they’re almost unnoticeable, not to mention that the frame is also non-existent. We, of course, cannot confirm that this is, in fact, the Mi 5, but this sure is interesting.

The company’s CEO mentioned recently that he’s already using the Mi 5, and that the phone is worth the wait. Now, we know that the phone is expected to be fueled by the Snapdragon 820 SoC, but what will its other specs look like? The device will probably sport a 5.2-5.5” display, 3/4GB of RAM and a number of internal storage variants. The 16 or 21-megapixel shooter will be available on the back of this handset, and you can expect it to be made out of metal. The fingerprint scanner is a given at this moment, and the ‘Force Touch’ display has also been mentioned in a number of leaks thus far. Android Lollipop or Marshmallow will come pre-installed on this handset with company’s MIUI 7 OS available on top of it. The Marshmallow is actually a realistic expectation at this point considering the company’s Mi 4 and Mi Note handset will get that update really soon. Either way, stay tuned, we’ll let you know if new info pops up.
