Xiaomi has recently released two new devices, the Redmi Note 3 smartphone and the Mi Pad 2 tablet. The two devices were released at the company’s ‘Grand Finale’ event quite recently, and as you can tell by the name, this event actually suggests Xiaomi won’t be making any (big) announcements before the end of this year. That basically means that we can expect the Mi 5 to launch in January, as most rumors have been suggesting. The Mi 5 has leaked quite a few times thus far, and we’ve seen a couple of leaks in the last couple of days. The device has leaked three times, we’ve seen the real life image of the phone, its render and a closeup on its display.
That being said, the most recent rumor says that the device might arrive on January 21st, which is actually a plausible timeframe, and thanks to a China-based analyst we now have new Mi 5 fingerprint scanning info to share with you. As some of you might know, a number of rumors have mentioned that Mi 5 might sport Qualcomm’s UltraSonic fingerprint scanner, but that won’t be the case, at least according to Pan Jiutang, The analyst says that Qualcomm’s new fingerprint scanning tech still isn’t stable enough, so Xiaomi opted not to include it in the Mi 5 after all. What is UltraSonic fingerprint scanning tech? Well, this basically means that a fingerprint scanner can be included in various materials, such as metal, plastic or glass, it doesn’t have to be a specific button or anything of the sort. Even more importantly, this technology is not affected by grease, dirt or anything of the sort.
This is actually one of many Mi 5 rumors we’ve seen recently, and it remains to be seen which ones are true, and which ones are not. As far as specs go, the Mi 5 is expected to sport a 5.2-5.5” QHD display, 3 or 4GB of RAM (depending on the variant) and more than one internal storage option. The device will allegedly going to be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC, even though MediaTek’s Helio X20 was also mentioned. The Mi 5 will be made out of metal, and it will most certainly feature some sort of a fingerprint scanner, and judging by today’s rumor, the regular kind. It remains to be seen if Xiaomi plans to include that fingerprint scanner on the back of the device, or in the physical home button which might be included here (though that is somewhat unlikely).
