As many of you know, Huawei is the third-largest smartphone manufacturer in the world at the moment. This Chinese smartphone OEM has had a really successful year, they’ve released a number of devices and have sold quite a few of them. Huawei has actually released their newest flagship quite recently, the Mate 8 phablet. That being said, it seems like Huawei is investing quite a lot into R&D, at least according to the latest report. Either way, let’s see what the report says, shall we.
Research & Development (R&D) is one of the most important parts of every company, so it’s not exactly surprising that Huawei invests around 14.2% of their revenue in R&D. Now, it’s interesting that Huawei invests in R&D more than Apple, the Cupertino giant spends ‘only’ 3.5% of its revenue on R&D. Huawei’s R&D investment is comparable to Google, who spends 15%, while Facebook and Qualcomm spends even more, these two companies invest 22% and 21% in R&D, respectively. Now, Apple might spend less than every other company we’ve listed if you look at the sheer percentage, but considering how much the company owns, Apple actually spends more money on R&D than both Facebook and Qualcomm, around $6.5 billion.
Huawei has big plans for next year as well. This China-based company actually plans on taking on Samsung, at least according to their CEO. Yu Chengdong said that the company’s smartphone offerings will actually surpass Samsung in the coming years. We don’t know how probable that is, but if Huawei really intends to make a big move, they’ll need to spend even more on R&D. One thing is for sure, Huawei is one the right path, definitely. The company has managed to increase their profits quite a lot in 2015, and they’re still rising. They keep on improving their devices, and have even released their first Nexus smartphone this year, the premium Nexus 6P which has been received well by both the tech community and tech sites. A recent rumor reported that Huawei might even manufacture Google’s new Nexus 7 tablet next year, and that might help Huawei grow even more. Either way, stay tuned for more info.
