Mid-Range Sony Xperia Z6 Lite Might Be In The Works

Sony has introduced their new Xperia Z5 line of devices during IFA in Berlin back in September. The company has showcased the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium handsets. The first and last device mentioned here can be considered to be Sony’s flagship offerings, and the ‘Premium’ variant sports the 4K display, on top of everything. The Xperia Z5 Compact, on the other hand, is more of a mid-range offering than anything else. That being said, a new Xperia Z6-related rumor surfaced, let’s check out what’s it all about.

A new rumor mentions the Xperia Z6 Lite handset, which is somewhat surprising, even though a recent report claimed that Sony intends on releasing five different Xperia Z6 smartphones. According to that info, the company will release the 4-inch Xperia Z6 Mini, 4.6-inch Xperia Z6 Compact, a 5.2-inch Xperia Z6, a 5.8-inch Xperia Z6 Plus, and a 6.4-inch Xperia Z6 Ultra. Now, keep in mind that these are just rumors, nothing has been confirmed by the company just yet. Five Xperia Z6 devices seems like a lot? Well, how about 6? As already mentioned, the new rumor claims that the company is also working on the Xperia Z6 Lite handset which will be released in 2016. The source says that this phone will sport a 5-inch display, and that it will have a metal-clad back cover. The phone is expected to be fueled by the Snapdragon 650 SoC (you might know it as the Snapdragon 618), and the device might cost around $385. The device could be announced alongside the rest of Xperia Z6 devices, and that announcement is expected to occur in May next year.

So, it seems like Sony plans on announcing not three, but six Xperia Z6 handsets. At first, this might seem somewhat unlikely, but with Sony, you never know. The company really needs to sell more devices in order to increase their profits, and they will certainly do their best in 2016. Either way, we’ll make sure to let you know when additional Xperia Z6-related news surface, and that will probably happen soon, so stay tuned.
