LG has essentially released two flagship devices this year, the LG G4 and the LG V10. The G4 is LG’s annual flagship from the ‘G’ line, but the V10 is the first handset of its kind. This smartphone sports a secondary ‘ticker’ display above the regular panel, and is quite interesting. That being said, it is worth mentioning that a recent report said that the G5 should arrive in April, just like its predecessor, and the V10’s successor will also launch next year, but we still don’t know when, H2 launch is definitely expected though.
Well, a new LG-related rumor surfaced in China, and it seemingly reveals some info regarding LG’s upcoming flagships and their SoCs. As you all know, LG has crashed and burned when they launched their first-gen Nuclun SoC which had a number of issues. Well, the second-gen Nuclun processor has been rumored for quite some time now, and it seems like it will be launched in the first half of next year. Now, the interesting part here is, this report says that this chip won’t fuel the LG G5, but might power the LG V10’s successor. The source claims that the Nuclun 2 will be slightly more powerful than the Kirin 950, but LG still thinks this is not powerful enough for the LG G5, which suggests the company is aiming to use the Snapdragon 820 in the end, even though the source did not mention that fact.
The Nuclun 2 will allegedly sport Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A72 cores, and will be manufactured by TSMC using a 16nm manufacturing process. Now, we do hope that LG’s Nuclun SoC will have better luck this time around, because the first one was a real disappointment. If LG actually managed to make a solid SoC, we’ll have yet another big player in the mobile processor game, which should make things even more interesting. LG will join the likes of Samsung and Huawei, and become a smartphone manufacturer which also manufactures their very own mobile processors. Either way, we’ll see what happens, stay tuned for additional info, as soon as something surfaces, we’ll make sure to let you know.
