T-Mobile CEO Shares his 2016 Wireless Predictions

Before you know it, 2016 will be here. Literally. We’re less than two days away from the new year, and T-Mobile’s CEO, John Legere has decided to share his predictions on the wireless industry for 2016. Legere penned a pretty long blog post, which you can read over on T-Mobile’s website. But to kick things off, Legere talked about the Uncarrier revolution marching on. Stating that “T-Mobile will keep eliminating industry pain points”. Which is what the Uncarrier revolution has been all about. Although with T-Mobile’s moves, the entire industry has changed, not just the T-Mobile network. Which is huge for the wireless industry.

Next up was the network. In 2015, the network team at T-Mobile did an amazing job at adding a ton of LTE, adding over a million square miles in 2015 alone, and they aren’t done yet. To quote, Legere “Who’s got both an advanced LTE network and the best mid-band spectrum capacity in the nation? Yeah. That’d be us.” And it’s true, they do have the best of the mid-band spectrum out of the four carriers, and it appears that they are deploying it quite well. Of course, Legere doesn’t want us to forget the spectrum auction that’s coming in the first quarter of 2016. Stating that the other three carriers already have 73% of the available low-band spectrum. And that this is going to be the biggest auction in wireless history.

Legere also thinks that Binge On will become one of their most popular moves ever. Although, there are some things that need to be fixed here with Binge On, but that’s a topic for another day. Legere says they will add at least 24 more services in 2016, while Verizon and AT&T will keep pushing their own video services like Go90.

Another controversial topic here, is that Verizon will be more panicked. With Legere saying that T-Mobile’s network can compete head-to-head with Verizon nearly everywhere. This week, Verizon started doing the whole, pay off your ETF thing that T-Mobile and Sprint have been doing for quite some time. It’s great for competition. Something that the wireless industry has needed for quite some time. 2016 is going to be a big year, in a few ways. You can read John Legere’s full post in the source link below.
