Xiaomi is well-known for their smartphone releases, but this Chinese smartphone manufacturer also develops their very own software. When you buy a Xiaomi-branded handset, you’ll also get the company’s Android-based MIUI OS which is installed on every single one of their devices. The company has introduced the MIUI 7 last year, and the MIUI 7.1 has arrived quite recently. Xiaomi has already started rolling out the MIUI 7.1 as well, to a number of their devices. One important thing to note here, this version of MIUI is not based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but the upcoming one will be, read on.
For those of you who are a part of Xiaomi’s beta testing program and own the Mi 3, Mi 4 or Mi Note, you can now test the MIUI 7 OS based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow (MIUI 6.1.7). Xiaomi has released this news in their official MIUI forum, and it seems like this update will roll out to the general public in the coming weeks. Xiaomi has released some changelog info as well, and a full changelog will quite probably arrive once the update is available for the general public. As far as the design goes, the MIUI 7 (and 7.1) are quite similar to the MIUI 6, though there are some visual enhancements, fo course. The major improvements come in the backend, the company has significantly improved the battery life in MIUI 7, and same can be said about the performance of this OS. Now, with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Xiaomi is expected to introduce further enhancements to MIUI 7, and it will be interesting to see what will they bring to the table. We still don’t know if Xiaomi is planning to leave the design as it is, or do they plan some further refinements here. Keep in mind that MIUI is significantly different than stock Android, just in case you’re planning to buy one of Xiaomi’s devices.
