On Tuesday, Boost Mobile made some changes to their family plans that they currently offer. As Sprint’s prepaid brand, Boost Mobile typically has the same phones available as Sprint. In addition to the new family plans, the carrier is also allowing new customers to buy a phone and get one free. So for a family of four, you can get up to two free smartphones. Boost Mobile does mention that this is only available at participating Boost Mobile stores. The carrier is also bringing Mexico roaming and international calls. For an extra $5/month, Boost Mobile customers will get unlimited talk and text in Mexico (as well as to Mexico when you’re in the US), and get up to 8GB of data while roaming in the country.
With the new family plans, you can choose between getting 1.5GB of high-speed data per line, of 5GB of high-speed data per line. For two lines, each plan is $70 or $35 for each line. Making it a no-brainer to opt for the 5GB plan as you’ll get more high-speed data for the same price. The 1.5GB plan goes to $90 for 3 lines and $100 for four lines. While the 5GB data plan here goes to $95 for 3 lines and $120 for four lines. On top of that, customers can get $5 off of their monthly bill by enrolling in Re-boost. Which is their auto-pay plan. This is a discount that most prepaid carriers offer these days.
Other features included with these plans is the ability to get even more high-speed data. You can earn up to 3GB of extra high-speed data by paying your bill on time. Simply pay it on time for three months and you’ll get an extra 500MB. This continues until you hit the max of 3GB. This is not limited to just family plans either. Boost Mobile also announced that mobile hotspot is now included with all of their plans. The data used from the mobile hotspot is taken from your high-speed data cap.
Loads of new features and plans coming into Boost Mobile. And this comes after Sprint’s CEO Marcelo Claure stated on the earnings call this morning that they weren’t going to be aggressive in the prepaid realm.
