Xiaomi Mi 5 has been one of the most talked about devices in the last couple of weeks. Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship was expected to arrive last year, but the company has opted to wait for the Snapdragon 820 SoC to become available. The company’s exec has recently confirmed that the phone will, indeed sport the Snapdragon 820 SoC, and that it will launch after the Chinese Sprint Festival / Chinese New Year, which meant it won’t arrive before February 20th. Some of the company’s pre-presentation materials leaked yesterday, and the Mi 5 has already been benchmarked a couple of times.
That being said, we now finally have an official confirmation as to when will the Mi 5 arrive. The company’s Senior Vice President, Liwan Jiang, announced on his official Weibo (Chinese social network) account that the company will hold a press conference on February 24th. In his post, he didn’t exactly keep it a secret that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be announced at the press conference, he has flat out confirmed that fact. So there you have it, mark February 24th in your calendars, Xiaomi will officially unveil the long-awaited Xiaomi Mi 5 in Beijing.
Speaking of Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship, we might as well take a look at what specifications will it allegedly sport. If rumors and benchmark listings are accurate, the Mi 5 will actually arrive in two variants. The standard variant will sport a 5.1-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, 3GB of RAM and feature a metallic frame which will be placed in between two sheets of glass. The 2.5D curved glass will be placed on top of the phone’s display. The ‘premium’ variant of this handset will sport a 5.1-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. This device will, allegedly, going to sport a metal unibody build. Both Mi 5 variants are said to ship with the Snapdragon 820 SoC, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, while Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 OS will be placed on top of Google’s operating system. The physical home button has also been pictured in a number of recently leaked images, and you can also expect a fingerprint scanner to be a part of this package.
