Samsung has numerous smartphones that launch each year. While they have tried to slim down the number of models they make, there are still quite a few that are available, and plenty more on the way. The Galaxy J is one of those smartphone lines from Samsung that is hard to tell whether it’s a high-end smartphone or a mid-ranger. The original Galaxy J from Samsung that released in 2013, featured a 5-inch 1080p display, 13MP camera and a Snapdragon 800 processor. For the time, that was a high-end smartphone. However looking at this model that’s been benchmarked by GFXBench, it appears that the Galaxy J5 is going to be slightly mid-range.
Smartphone makers routinely will benchmark prototypes when making a smartphone. This helps the engineers see how well it’s doing, and to see what kind of changes need to be made to either the hardware or the software, as the software does have a pretty big part in how well a device performs. A Samsung device, by the model SM-J510x recently went through GFXBench. Now the site claims this is the Galaxy J5 2016, and the model number does seem to support that, as the predecessor, which is the Galaxy J5, has the model number SM-J500. Now it’s important to remember that benchmark listings can be faked, so take this all with a grain of salt.
According to the GFXBench listing here, the Galaxy J5 appears to be sporting a 5.2-inch 1280×720 resolution display (the listing doesn’t mention whether it’s AMOLED, LCD, or another technology). It’s also sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.2GHz, which it notes is the Snapdragon 410. We also have 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, along with a 13-megapixel camera around back and a 5-megapixel camera on the front. Not bad for a mid-ranger, really. Specs are pretty much spot on with the current generation Moto G. Which has been Motorola’s best selling smartphone ever.
There’s no announcement just yet for the Galaxy J. It’s likely that this could be announced via a press release – which is common for Samsung with non-flagship devices – and with Mobile World Congress just a few weeks away, it could happen pretty soon.
