Huawei is a company who had a great 2015. At the very end of the year, reports came through detailing that the company had seen revenue growth for the year of about 35-percent and that they had managed to sell in excess of 100 million smartphones throughout the year. Which is no small feat. Not to mention, Huawei is also the company who brought to market the current flagship Nexus device, the Nexus 6P, as well as one of the most sought after smartwatches, the Huawei Watch. Of course, Huawei also has a sub-brand, Honor, who has also been making the headlines quite recently and frequently.
The big news which came from Honor is that the brand is on its way to the U.S. and its first device to arrive will be the Honor 5X. This is a device which is currently available to pre-order until its eventual release, which is stated to be January 31st. That said, this is certainly a mid-range device, and if you had been thinking about picking one up, but were concerned about what software support it might receive going forward, then it would seem that there is not much to worry about.
A report coming out of GSM Arena today states that Honor have confirmed that the Honor 5X will be receiving the update to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). No firm delivery details were provided, but the confirmation alone will be good news to those considering buying the smartphone. For reference, the Marshmallow update will come in the form of the latest version of Huawei’s own EMUI 4.0. However, that’s not all. Honor were also noted confirming that they will be releasing regular security updates to the Honor 5X as well. This is an aspect which many companies have now begun to do to ensure their devices remain secure from all developing threats. So again, this will be good news to those thinking about picking one up as they can rest assured that Honor does look to be keen to ensure the Honor 5X is a device which will continue to be maintained and supported. In terms of the security updates, these typically do come in the form of a monthly update. While there was no confirmation from Honor that the Honor 5X updates which be this frequent, if they have committed to security updates, it does seem likely that they will be timely and regular updates.
