Every year Samsung holds an event to unveil its new flagship devices, and this year will be no different. With Samsung’s Unpacked event rumored to be February 20th or Feb. 21st this year it’s possible and likely that the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge will be announced, although a new rumor from evleaks points to February 21st as the unveiling date for “The Next Galaxy” as a leaked image of what appears to be an Unpacked 2016 teaser for the Galaxy S7 lists the 21st as the day to expect a showing of the phone. Rumors point to both days for Unpacked 2016, but the 21st is sounding more likely with more than one rumor suggesting as such.
It’s expected that Samsung will be unveiling both the standard Galaxy S7 as well as the Galaxy S7 Edge at this year’s Mobile World Congress during their Unpacked event. In addition to the rumors about the unveiling, plenty of rumors have also suggested varying specifications and hardware used for the phones, including a possible Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm powering at least one model of the device, which seems quite likely given that Samsung was announced as the company manufacturing Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset.
Other rumored hardware specifications include a 5.1-inch screen with a 2K resolution of 1440 x 2560, and instead of the Snapdragon 820 CPU from Qualcomm Samsung could opt to use their own in-house Exynos 8890 chipset for the phones instead. In regards to the processors, rumors have also stated that Samsung could be planning to use one processor in some models while using the other processor for another variation, possibly in different regions. The Galaxy S7 is also expected to have 4GB or 3GB of RAM, with a potential 3000mAh battery powering the device and likely Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the software version, along with a 12MP BRITECELL camera on the back. The Galaxy S7 Edge could very well have almost all of the same specifications, aside from the display which is rumored to be coming in a bit larger at 5.5-inches, albeit with the same resolution of 1440 xx 2560. Whether or not any of these specs rumors are true are unclear, but it seems that Samsung will share those details on February 21st.
