Uber's New 'Trip Experiences' Feature Helps Fill Your Spare Time

Uber has grown into a massive company since it launched a few years ago, and although their main service, which is focused on providing users with rides at comparable prices to taxis to anywhere they need, the Uber has just announced a new feature which is going to transition it from being just about the ride from point A to point B. Uber seems to know and understand that riders tend to have some time to spare during their trip towards their destination, whether it be just a few minutes or an hour. The ‘Trip Experiences’ feature they have unveiled today sets out to assist users in making the most of that free time.

For users, Trip Experiences is all about meaningful integrations for those times spent in the backseat of an Uber vehicle. One good example is having a music playlist pop up that lasts the length of the trip, allowing users to listen to some of their favorite tunes while they’re doing nothing but traveling between two places. Music playlists aren’t the only idea Uber is excited about and certainly not the only applicable implementation. For those that prefer to use their free time to catch up on the latest headlines and news articles, a news update to match the length of the trip is also a possibility.

All kinds of other possibilities arise as well, like having your heat turn on when you’re requesting an Uber to transport you home or relevant offers and information about the places you’re headed towards like say, out for dinner and drinks. While most of these would likely be very useful to droves of Uber users none of them are available just yet. Trip Experiences is a developer feature as it’s part of the Uber API that Uber made public last year, meaning that the feature is there for developers to work with so they can make these integrations happen. Uber states that this is the biggest update to the API they have released since last March, and that they’re glad to give developers more tools to enrich the Uber ride share experience.
