Xiaomi Mi 5 is one of the most anticipated Chinese devices this year, if not the most anticipated one. The Mi 5 was expected to launch last year, but that didn’t happen because the Snapdragon 820 wasn’t available at the time. Xiaomi’s exec confirmed that the device will ship with Snapdragon 820 on the inside, and the company’s Senior VP actually confirmed that the phone will be announced on February 24th. That confirmation came a couple of days ago, and Xiaomi has finally decided to let the world know that information was spot on, read on.
Xiaomi has officially confirmed that the Mi 5 will be coming on February 24th, and that the event will be held in Beijing. Xiaomi’s official social accounts shared a new image containing the number 5, along with the info I’ve mentioned, and the ‘All you ever imagined, and more’ slogan. Hugo Barra has also posted this image, along with the info, and a number of Xiaomi’s exec did the same thing. This timing seems a bit odd though, MWC will be in full motion at that time, and one would think Xiaomi will wait until after the tradeshow to announced their flagship. On the other hand, this launch will be held in China, and Xiaomi is still selling their devices in Asia, not exclusively, but the vast majority of them are sold in Asia.
That being said, let’s take a look at Mi 5’s leaked specs, shall we. The latest report that arrived claims that Xiaomi will introduce four devices, two all-metal ones, and two which will sport metallic frame, and two pieces of glass on its front and back side. Now, according to that info, the glass + metal devices will ship with 4GB of RAM and either 32 or 64GB of internal storage, while the all-metal models will be available in both 3 and 4GB of RAM variants. The device is said to sport a 16-megapixel camera on the back, and a 3,600mAh battery has also been mentioned. Android 6.0 Marshmallow will come pre-installed on this smartphone, and Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 OS will come installed on top of Google’s OS. The Mi 5 will sport a physical home button up front, if the leaks are to believe that is. That’s pretty much it, stay tuned for further updates.
