Xiaomi has introduced a ton of smartphones in 2015, and they’ve started off this year with a bang as well. January is only halfway over, and Xiaomi has already introduced two handsets, the Redmi 3 and the one we’ll talk about today, the Redmi Note 3 (new version). Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi 3 three days ago, and after they’ve released a teaser yesterday, the company has also launched the Redmi Note 3 (new version) in India, read on.
The Redmi Note 3 was announced back in November, and a new version of this handset just arrived. Now, the higher-end (new) version of Redmi Note 3 looks identical to its sibling, and it also packs really similar specs on the inside. This handset comes with a completely new SoC, and a more capable rear-facing camera. That being said, let’s take a look at the device’s spec sheet, shall we. The Redmi Note 3 (new versino) sports a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) IPS display, along with 2GB / 3GB of RAM and 16 / 32GB of internal storage. This smartphone is fueled by the Snapdragon 650 64-bit hexa-core processor along with an Adreno 510 GPU for graphics. The 16-megapixel shooter (PDAF, f/2.0 aperture) is located on the back of this smartphone, and a 5-megapixel snapper can be found up front. The 4,050mAh battery is also a part of this package, and you get a fast charging tech here as well. The phone is equipped with an infrared sensor, and a fingerprint scanner is also here, it’s located below the rear-facing camera. The MIUI 7 OS comes pre-installed here, and it is based on Android Lollipop. The all-new Redmi Note 3 measures 150 x 76 x 8.65mm, while it weighs 164 grams.
As you can see, this device is identical to the Redmi Note 3, except for the fact it sports a Snapdragon 650 instead of the Snapdragon 616 SoC, and it also comes with a 16-megapixel shooter, instead of the 13-megapixel one you’ll find in the Redmi Note 3. This new version of the device comes in Silver, Dark Grey and Champagne Gold color options, and the 2GB RAM variants of this phone costs 999 Yuan ($151). Xiaomi still didn’t share the pricing of the higher-end model, but we assume that will happen soon. The 2GB RAM model of the device will be available in Xiaomi’s homeland starting on January 17th, and the device will probably launch in India next month.
UPDATE: The article has been edited after Xiaomi reached out to us. The device’s name is not Redmi Note 3 Pro, but simply Redmi Note 3. This is the new version of the phone, but Xiaomi decided to keep the naming unchanged.
