In Barcelona, Spain today, Samsung announced two new smartphones in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. They are largely the same aside from the Galaxy S7 Edge sporting a dual-curved display as well as a larger display and battery. The Galaxy S7 has a 5.1-inch display while the Galaxy S7 Edge sports a 5.5-inch display. Additionally both are sporting Snapdragon 820 processors (here in the US, other markets may see the Exynos 8890), along with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. We’ve already heard from AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile that they will be carrying the new smartphones, and now we’re hearing from prepaid carrier Cricket about their availability. Although it appears that they are only going to carry the Galaxy S7 and not the Galaxy S7 Edge.
Cricket hasn’t announced a release date or pricing for the Galaxy S7. However, with Samsung touting that March 11th is the day that both devices will be available, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it launch then. With Cricket being a prepaid carrier, it’s also likely that you’ll be seeing a much higher price here than at the traditional carriers, seeing as they don’t do financing (although they have said they might be doing financing in the near future). The carrier has over 3,800 retail stores nationwide, allowing you to run into a store and check out the Galaxy S7 for yourself and pick one up if you’d like. Of course, you can also shop online via their website.
Their plans start at just $35/month and that is after a $5/month auto-pay credit for those that decide to do auto-pay. That price does include all applicable taxes and fees. Cricket is owned by AT&T, so it runs on their network, which is one of the best around. AT&T’s 4G LTE network covers roughly 308 million Americans, as Cricket noted in their press release today. Cricket is a great place to pick up the Samsung Galaxy S7, especially if you’re looking to get the device and not pay a whole lot on your monthly bill. Like you would at other carriers. It’ll likely come to other prepaid carriers, but none have been announced just yet.
