Even though sales of tablets haven’t been good lately, it wasn’t totally hard to imagine Samsung working on new tablets. They basically have one for each price point and even some experiments to make their tablet portfolio more appealing. Back in November, it was rumored that Samsung might be getting ready to update their entry-level Galaxy Tab E lineup. Then, some benchmark results surfaced, so we found out the exact model numbers for two tablets, the SM-T280 belongs to the one with only Wi-Fi connectivity and the SM-T285 is the variant with 4G LTE connectivity, additionally, we got to know some of their specs.
Now, we got a few pictures that allegedly depict these tablets in black and white color options. It features Samsung’s typical design and the textured back is reminiscent of the Galaxy S5. These model numbers are apparently associated to the Galaxy Tab A 7.0, however, it is said that in the U.S. it will become known as the Galaxy Tab E 7.0. Let’s remember that the Galaxy A series of smartphones and tablets is used in mid-range devices and the Galaxy E series is used to refer to lower-end devices. The report mentions that they feature a plastic housing and given that the specs are nothing to brag about, they might fit better under the Galaxy Tab E name. Reportedly, these tablets will be marketed as “the tablet in your pocket” due to the small size of their screen and the fact that they measure 8.7 mm thick and weight 283 grams.
Some of the specs include a 7-inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz with 1.5 GB of RAM. There is 8 GB of internal storage with a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel one on the front. There’s a 4,000 mAh battery and they will run Android 5.1 Lollipop by the time they launch. The price might be €169 for the Wi-Fi model and possibly €219 for the LTE version, but this and a few other details will have to be confirmed when they get announced officially. The wallpaper looks similar to the one of the leaked images of the Galaxy S7, so the new tablets could be introduced around the same date, it was also said that a Kids Edition tablet based on these tablets could be launched, as well.
