After being announced at CES last month in Las Vegas, the Legend CP100 from JBL has grabbed a lot of headlines, and gotten a lot of attention. And there are a few reasons why. The biggest being its price for an Android Auto head unit. All of the other head units available are over $700 at their regular price (Pioneer’s cheapest is currently going for around $581 on Amazon), but they also do much more than just Android Auto. They also add in HD Radio, some with satellite radio and even a DVD player – some of Pioneer’s higher-end models include Nokia’s HERE Maps.

JBL’s Legend CP100 doesn’t do any of that. The CP100 does a couple of things, and that’s giving you FM Radio, Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay compatibility. And, the best part is the price, it starts at $399 – we’ll likely see the price drop down a bit in the coming months. That’s about half the price of the original price from Kenwood and Pioneer models. Making it very appealing for many users looking to get on the Android Auto bandwagon. It appears that the Legend CP100 is coming sooner than we thought too. As JBL recently updated their anticipated ship date to February 14th, 2016. Which so happens to be this Sunday.

While pre-orders are slated to start shipping on February 14th, we should also see orders shipping shortly after that – unless their stock runs dry quickly. Currently, only JBL’s website is listing the Legend CP100, however that may change next week when the head unit is officially available. Pioneer and Kenwood’s head units are available at many retailers including Amazon, eBay, Best Buy, and many car stereo places. If you’ve never installed a head unit before, we would definitely recommend you getting it installed by a professional, and beware, it can take quite a bit of time as well. When we got the Pioneer AVH-4100NEX installed last year, it took over 4 hours to be completed – of course that all depends on your car’s make and model.

As soon as the JBL Legend CP100 goes on sale and is available at other retailers, we’ll be sure to update this post with the latest information.
