Today is a rather interesting day in Barcelona, at least for those of you who love new technology, especially mobile technology. Both LG and Samsung have introduced their new flagship devices. LG has introduced the innovative LG G5 earlier today, a device which certainly isn’t for someone, but is fairly different than its predecessors. Samsung actually followed quite recently with the unveiling of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones which have been leaking out for quite some time now. You’ll find quite a few articles about the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge since they were announced, and we’re here to add to that content by talking about their batteries and connected tech, read on.
Both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have bigger battery packs than its predecessors. The Galaxy S6 featured a 2,550mAh unit, and the Galaxy S7 (which sports the same size display), ships with a 3,000mAh battery. The Galaxy S7 Edge, on the other hand, has a significantly bigger display (5.5-inches) than its predecessor (5.1-inches), and in order to compensate for that, Samsung has included the 3,600mAh battery in the Galaxy S7 Edge, while the last year’s model featured a 2,600mAh unit. It is worth mentioning that all these batteries packs are non-removable, no matter which Galaxy S6 or S7 handset we’re talking about. That being said, Samsung has included both Fast Charging and Fast Wireless Charging for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, though keep in mind you’ll need a separate wireless charging pad in order to take advantage of that functionality. The company noted that fast charging requires an Adaptive Fast Charging (AFC) or Quick Charge 2.0-compatible charger in order to work.
The Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge are both made out of metal and glass, just like their predecessors. Unlike their predecessors, however, these two devices are not the same size, and their overall specs are somewhat different because of it. They both sport Super AMOLED QHD panels, but the Galaxy S7’s display is 5.1-inch big, compared to the 5.5-inch panel on the Galaxy S7 Edge. The company has announced two variants of this smartphone, one variant is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 SoC, while the other sports the Exynos 8890 processor. The 12-megapixel shooter is available on the back of these phones, and a 5-megapixel snapper can be found up front. Android 6 Marshmallow is available on both of these devices out of the box, and on top of it, you’ll find Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, of course.
