During the Mobile World Congress conference today, SanDisk announced a new Ultra USB Type-C Flash Drive, the fastest and largest USB Type-C storage solution for what the California-based company describes as the “next-generation devices”, as well as the new SanDisk Extreme PRO microSDXC UHS-II card which also boasts the fastest reading and writing speeds among the earthly competition.
As revealed by the SanDisk VP of product marketing Dinesh Bahal, the American manufacturer of flash memory storage devices is expecting “to see many new USB Type-C supported devices released in 2016,” so it’s jumping on the Type-C bandwagon which has been getting larger for a while now. Despite its optimistic predictions, the USB Type-C standard probably won’t go mainstream this year, but that isn’t to say this new offering from SanDisk won’t be a worthy purchase. The flash drive is available in versions up to 128 GB and is able to reach a maximum speed of 150 MB per second. In other words, this is currently both the fastest and the largest USB Type-C money can buy. Speaking of money, the said flash drive can already be purchased from Amazon and other licensed retailers. The four available versions feature capacities of 16, 32, 64, and 128 GB and have a five-year warranty while their suggested retail prices amount to 20, 30, 50, and eighty bucks. Naturally, the entire new series is compatible with the SanDisk Memory Zone app for Android devices.
In addition to that, Bahal stated that the simultaneously revealed SanDisk Extreme PRO microSDXC UHS-II card was designed with action cameras and drones, i.e. their growing needs to quickly transfer huge amounts of video content in mind. The said storage solution comes in 64 and 128 GB versions which means it doesn’t really come close to the 200 GB monster SanDisk released last year in the form of a regular microSD XC card, but what it lacks in storage, it more than makes up in terms of speed. Specifically, the said piece of a storage device supports speeds of up to 275 MB per second, which is thrice as fast as its predecessor and faster than any other microSD solution in the world. Not a bad deal for 180 and 300 dollars, which are the suggested retail prices of the two cards which can be purchased online. For that money, users will also get a USB 3.0 card reader and a lifetime warranty on their purchase, so those looking for a high-end storage solution for their camera, drone, smartphone, or a tablet.
