If you’re new to the smartphone world, looking for a better prepaid deal or looking to give T-Mobile’s network a test drive, you may be considering using their prepaid program. With a good few different plans available to fit just about every budget, T-Mobile’s prepaid is definitely not the worst option in the industry. If, however, you needed to have the deal sweetened for you for whatever reason, T-Mobile has just done that. In a press release dated February 1, they’ve outlined a few qualifications for new prepaid customers on certain plans to receive a free handset via mail-in rebate, so long as they go to an actual T-Mobile store to sign up rather than doing so online. The rebate program begins on Wednesday, February 3rd.
Plans in the Simply Prepaid, Simple Choice Prepaid, and Simple Choice No Credit lines are all eligible, so long as the plan runs over $40 per month. Upon new line activation, pick a qualifying phone worth $50 or less and you’ll get a $50 mail-in rebate. A second line will net you a second rebate, but there was no mention of whether subsequent lines would quality. The phones that are available are all passable, but decidedly low-end affairs. The phones include the Snapdragon 410-powered LG Leon, with a 1280 x 720 screen and 1 GB of RAM, along with the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, sporting similar specs. The ultra-cheap Coolpad Rogue, boasting a dual-core processor with an Adreno 304 GPU is also on board, as is the ZTE Obsidian, featuring Mediatek’s MT6735M processor and 1 GB of RAM. Of the four, the Coolpad Rogue and ZTE Obsidian may be lesser-known, but might just be worth a look for some consumers.
The phones available may not be the greatest, but consumers will be getting them for basically zilch and there is always the option to bring your own device, making now a very good time to take T-Mobile’s network for a test drive if you’ve been thinking about it. The press release didn’t mention just how long the promotion will last, though, so if you’re thinking of taking advantage of the offer, it may be a good idea to make a beeline for your nearest T-Mobile store on Wednesday.
