Xiaomi Mi 5 Is Coming, And You Can Watch The Event Live

In the last couple of months we’ve seen a lot of leaks regarding the Xiaomi Mi 5. That device was originally expected to arrive last year, but Xiaomi opted to wait until the Snapdragon 820 SoC becomes available, and they have finally revealed a couple of weeks ago that the phone will be announced on February 24th both in Beijing and Barcelona.

Well, that day has come, and the launch event will commence in about an hour. The Xiaomi Mi 5 will be fueled by the Snapdragon 820 SoC, and ship with a 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, that much has been confirmed by the company’s execs. The leaks have reported that 3GB / 4GB of RAM will be included on the inside, and that Android 6.0 Marshmallow will come pre-installed on it, with Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 operating system. The display size is expected to be 5.2-inches, while NFC and dual-SIM connectivity have also been confirmed already. Various rumors claimed that the device will arrive in two different variants, the all-metal and metal + glass variants, though we don’t know how accurate those rumors were. More than one internal storage option is also expected, and the device will probably sport a 16-megapixel camera on the back, while a 5-megapixel shooter will be available up front. On top of all that, Xiaomi is also expected to announce an additional device next to the Xiaomi Mi 5, and according to rumors, that might be the Mi Drone. We’re still not convinced Xiaomi will introduce their very own drone today, but we’ll see. Either way, everything will be revealed shortly.

We’ve already seen Samsung and LG announce their flagship offerings, the LG G5, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, and it’s time for Xiaomi to show us what they have up their sleeve. The Mi 5 event will be live streamed by Xiaomi, and if you’re interested to check that out, we’ve embedded the YouTube link for you down below, the event is kicking off at 8AM CES / 2AM EST.
