Xiaomi Mi 5 Pricing Revealed, Available Starting March 1st

Following months of various rumors and leaks, Xiaomi has finally stepped up and announced their new flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 5. The company has held an event both in Beijing and Barcelona earlier today, and introduced the Mi 5 to the world. Now, we’re here to talk about pricing of the Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 Pro. Xiaomi has revealed during their press conference in Barcelona, that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be available starting March 1st in China, both through mi.com, and through Xiaomi’s retail stores in the country. It is possible that the Mi 5 Pro won’t be available that soon, but we’ll see. The 32GB variant of the device which ships with 3GB of RAM is priced at 1,999 Yuan (~$300) in China, while the 3GB RAM model with 64GB of native storage costs 2,299 Yuan (~$350). The Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro aka the 4GB RAM model with 128GB of native storage, is priced at 2,699 Yuan (~$400). Keep in mind that we’ve calculated the pricing to dollars based on the current exchange rate. Hugo Barra actually showed off different prices in dollars because those are VAT-free, unlike the ones we’ve calculated here. Now, you’re probably wondering what’s the pricing in other markets? Well, the company did not disclose that info, but Hugo Barra did mention that the device will roll out to India soon, and other global markets will follow soon after that, so stay tuned.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is made out of 3D glass / ceramic, and it sports a physical home button below the display, which also doubles as a fingerprint scanner. The device sports a 5.15-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, 3GB / 4GB of RAM, and 32GB / 64GB / 128GB of expandable internal storage. The ‘regular’ Xiaomi Mi 5 will ship with 3GB of RAM (32GB or 64GB of native storage), while the special edition Ceramic variant is called Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro, and will ship with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor, and a 3,000mAh battery is available on the inside. The 16-megapixel OIS camera is available on the back of this phone, and a 4-megpaixel snapper can be found up front. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes out of the box here, with Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 OS available on top of it. The device measures 144.55 x 69.2 x 7.25mm, while it weighs 129 grams.
