Asus’ ZenFone devices were quite popular last year. The company’s ZenFone 2 line of devices was quite popular, as were a number of other ZenFone-branded smartphones this Taiwan-based smartphone manufacturer released last year. That being said, Asus has released yet another smartphone in December last year (originally announced in January 2015), and re-introduced it last month during CES in Las Vegas, the ZenFone Zoom. This smartphone has been launched in India quite recently, and it does offer a really interesting set of specs and features.
Asus has promised that the ZenFone Zoom sales in the US will commence on February 1st, and that’s exactly what happened. The device is now available exclusively via B&H Photo, after being available for pre-order for quite some time. The ZenFone Zoom is unlocked, and you can purchase it for $399 if you want. The ZenFone Zoom sports a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) IPS display, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable internal storage (expandable up to 64GB via a microSD card). This smartphone is fueled by Intel’s Atom Z3590 quad-core SoC running at 2.5GHz, and a 3,000mAh non-removable battery is also a part of this package. The 13-megapixel OIS shooter (f/2.7-4.8 aperture, 28-84mm lens, laser autofocus) which offers 3x optical zoom, this is also one of the main selling points of this device, as its name suggests. The 5-megapixel snapper (f/2.0 aperture) is available up front, and this phone offers two SIM card slots on the inside. Android 5.0 Lollipop comes pre-installed on the ZenFone Zoom, along with Asus’ ZenUI skin, which is installed on top of Google’s OS. The ZenFone Zoom measures 158.9 x 78.8 x 12mm, while it weighs 185 grams.
The ZenFone Zoom sports a metallic frame (aluminum), while it has leather on the back, which surrounds the oreo-shaped camera cutout. Both the power and volume rocker buttons are placed on the right side of this smartphone, and there are no capacitive buttons here, you’ll get to use this device’s on-screen keys.
