While smartphones pre-loaded with Cyanogen OS have become comparatively more common over the past couple of years, it still continues to remain a bit of a novelty, which is where Chinese smartphone brand ZUK comes in. The brand is a part of one of the biggest multinational consumer technology companies in China – Lenovo Inc. – and its unique selling point happens to be the Cyanogen OS that it runs as its software of choice. The first ever ZUK-branded smartphone, the ZUK Z1, was launched back in August last year, and that continues to remain the only ZUK smartphone launched so far. However, that scenario is finally set to change, seeing as the company has now officially announced its plans to launch an all-new handset next month.
While the launch of the second ZUK handset may well be on the horizon, there seems to be no real info regarding the device itself. Some sections of the tech media in China seem to believe that the upcoming device will be a mid-ranged one called the Z1 Pro, which will supposedly be an upgrade over the Z1, although there’s nothing definitive about those claims at this point in time. It’s worth noting that the upcoming flagship from the company – tentatively titled the ZUK Z2 – has been leaked a few times already, giving us a few pieces of info regarding what can be expected from the upcoming ZUK flagship. Some unconfirmed rumors have claimed that the device will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset from Qualcomm and have some sort of a rotating camera, much like Oppo’s N1 and N3 smartphones.
Either way, with not much else to go by, one will have to wait just a little bit longer to find out what Lenovo and/or ZUK has in store for the media next month. Hopefully though, the upcoming handset will leak out in all its glory sooner rather than later, giving us a good look at the upcoming ZUK smartphone. Of course, Cyanogen OS continues to remain the novelty factor on the international models of ZUK smartphones, and although brands like YU in India and Wileyfox in the UK have also been shipping phones with the world’s most-loved Android ROM, ZUK remains a brand that will continue to intrigue smartphone enthusiasts, at least in the near future.
