Along with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones from Samsung, one of the most talked-about product launches at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year was the LG G5. The device follows up on the G4, and will be the flagship smartphone from the South Korean company for this year. The device is scheduled to go on pre-order next week on a number of carriers in the US, including T-Mobile and US Cellular. Now, it is the turn of AT&T, the nation’s second largest wireless carrier, to confirm its plans regarding the upcoming premium smartphone. The company had earlier announced that it will be carrying the device on its network, so it comes as no surprise that the carrier has now revealed its plans to start accepting pre-orders for the latest premium smartphone from LG Electronics with immediate effect.
One point to note here is that the LG G5 has already been available for pre-order since last week through Best Buy. However, the device can now be pre-ordered directly from AT&T at its retail stores or online website. The carrier has also announced a few promos to sweeten the deal for its customers, like the BOGO (Buy One Get One) offer that will allow AT&T subscribers buying two units of the LG G5 to get bill credits worth up to $689 over a 24-month period, making the second device free for all practical purposes. The scheme, however is only valid for those on AT&T Next 24 with qualified data plans like Mobile Share Value. DirecTV subscribers will also be able to use the G5 as a remote control device, and AT&T also says that its customers will also be able to watch television programs through the DirecTV app.
AT&T has also announced that qualified LG G5 buyers will also be able to buy the LG Watch Urbane 2nd-generation LTE smartwatch for just $99.99, provided they sign a two-year contract on a qualified AT&T Next plan. The carrier takes the time to point out that the smartwatch can be used to make and receive phone calls independent of mobile phones, as it carries a cellular receiver. Currently, it is the only Android Wear smartwatch that works with NumberSync, which is AT&T-speak for voice-calling support on connected AT&T gadgets that are not primarily mobile phones, but carry cellular radios to facilitate phone calls natively.
