Earlier, it was leaked that Amazon would begin selling Comcast TV and internet service fairly soon. In fact, the page on Amazon’s site was still up and running. Now, Comcast has made it official with a press release. So now, you can buy Xfinity TV or Internet or home phone (or all three!) from Amazon. According to Comcast’s press release this afternoon, the company’s executive vice president of customer experience, Charlie Herrin stated that “Amazon is not only the biggest online retailer, and a place where millions of our customers shop everyday, but it’s also a brand that’s unrivaled when it comes to customer service.” He continued by stating that “Amazon’s new marketplace provides an immersive online destination to showcase our terrific suite or products, including Xfinity X1.”
So instead of dealing with Comcast’s customer support for everything, you can work with Amazon’s customer support, which is a pretty good experience, to say the least. With Amazon, you’re getting simplified pricing – although the pricing appears to be the same as what Comcast offers – and an easier way to get Comcast service. Whether you’re a current Comcast customer or a new customer, you can buy through Amazon. Making things much simpler.
Looking at Amazon’s “Cable Store” it appears that not all packages are available. In my area, at least, they are offering up 10Mbps, 25Mbps, 75Mbps, 150Mbps and 250Mbps. Although some are not available at all, and some are only available without a one-year agreement. There are likely some bugs going on right now, but those should hopefully be worked out pretty soon. For having a “double play” with Internet and TV, it seems like Comcast and Amazon are only offering 30, 45, 140 and 220 channel packages, all of which comes with HBO. Additionally, they are paired with 25Mbps, 75Mbps, 150Mbps or 250Mbps connection speeds. Their double play packages can be done with a 2-year agreement in addition to a 1-year and no term.
As mentioned earlier, these all include DVR and HD service for cable TV. So you are able to get a DVR at the same price that most wouldn’t get DVR service. Definitely worth going through Amazon, then, to get cable. Don’t forget that Amazon has a table listed that shows you the comparison of all of the bundles available. So you can see which one is right for you.
It’s an interesting move for both Amazon and Comcast. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with this partnership and who it benefits most, which it might be equally beneficial.
