It’s been rumored for quite some time, and not it looks like it’s officially happening. The HTC 10 announcement is going to be happening on April 12th and it will be streamed in virtual reality. This is similar to what HTC did with the One A9 announcement last fall. They had a small gathering in NYC with the event being streamed in virtual reality. The unveiling is set to take place first thing in the morning, with the event beginning at 8am ET.
The HTC 10, which is what the rumors have pointed to as the name, is slated to be a pretty decent high-end smartphone from HTC. Rumored specs for the device include a 5.2-inch 2560×1440 resolution AMOLED display, along with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 powering the device. We’re also looking at 4GB of RAM on-board and 32GB of storage with a microSD card slot. HTC has been rumored to be bringing back the UltraPixel camera which is a 12-Megapixel sensor – said to be the same Sony IMX377 that is used in the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P – as well as leaving UltraPixel on the front-facing camera. The device also appears to be modeled after the HTC One A9 that was released in October of last year. Along with some chamfered edges on the back which should help with holding the phone comfortably.
It’s tough to know what to expect with the HTC 10 being announced on April 12th, but you can count on Android Headlines to bring you all of the details as usual. HTC has struggled in recent years with their smartphones, and hopefully the HTC 10 will be a good one from them this time around. Although HTC has already done pretty well with the HTC Vive and in VR, they are still a smartphone company, and that is still their bread and butter. The HTC 10 will likely be coming to all four carriers in the US, and it’ll be coming after the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge and LG G5 have all been available for some time. Which will make it a bit difficult for HTC to grab some sales, but if the HTC 10 is a good enough smartphone, that shouldn’t matter.
