When talking about LG, all the attention goes towards their latest flagship phone, the LG G5. However, the company has other lines in the market and if you do not want to pay top-dollar on a smartphone, there are several entry-level options. Cricket Wireless, a pre-paid service provider of AT&T, has just announced that they will be bringing the LG Spree on board their portfolio, which is a very affordable, LTE-enabled Android handset.
Being sold for just $79.99, don’t expect much of this phone, though. Powered by a Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon processor running at 1.1 GHz (no model specified), it comes with 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage and supports microSD cards of up to 32 GB. The body is made of polycarbonate, with large bezels around a 4.5-inch screen with a resolution of 480×854 pixels. There’s a 5 megapixels rear camera and the front shooter has 2 megapixels. The operating system is Android 5.1 Lollipop, and unfortunately, there’s no word on an upgrade for Android 6 Marshmallow, which would be a good thing in terms of performance improvements. There’s also a 1,940 mAh battery, which should provide a good usage time, thanks to the small screen and slow hardware.
This is one more device on Cricket’s portfolio of entry-level, cheap phones. Early in January, the company made available the Kyocera Hydro VIEW, also with a price of $80 and with very similar specs of the LG Spree, but with a bigger screen and IP57 certification, meaning it is water and dust resistant. The Spree will be available from March 11th (tomorrow) forward, and you will be able to get it online and at any Cricket authorized retailer. If you purchase the device between tomorrow and March 24th, there will be a $20 discount on the LG Tone Pro wireless headphones, which goes on sale for $70 and you will be able to get it for $50. If entry-level is not your thing and you want more power, on March 18th, Cricket will also be bringing in Samsung’s latest flagship phone, the Galaxy S7, with a price tag of $650, and for a limited period of time, it will come with a Gear VR headset and pack of 6 games for free.
