Although the LG G5 may have not received the same amount of time in the spotlight as its biggest rival, – the Samsung Galaxy S7 – the day will soon come when LG’s latest flagship will finally hit the shelves. While the company hasn’t been in a rush to reveal an exact launch date for the device other than the “early April” timeframe, a new TV commercial for the LG G5 called “Play Begins” confirms that the smartphone is set to officially hit the market on the 1st day of April.
Up until now, countless retailers and carriers around the world have confirmed that they will offer the LG G5 in their virtual or brick & mortar stores in the near future. Some outlets even posted early tentative shipping dates, despite the fact that LG didn’t actually set the handset’s launch date in stone. Fortunately, this is no longer the case, as LG’s latest TV commercial targeting its newest flagship confirms that the LG G5 will be released on April 1st. The ad is 15 seconds long and appears to be focusing on the LG G5’s modular design. The commercial doesn’t speak much of the phone itself, but it might be enough to make consumers more curious in regards to the device’s rather unique characteristics, specifically LG’s “Friends” concept.
As far as pricing goes, the LG G5 will cost roughly $US630 unlocked, and in the UK, the smartphone is generally accompanied by a price tag of roughly £500. Evidently, the handset is already available for pre-purchase through major retailers including Best Buy in the US, who offers various deals for prospective customers willing to acquire the phone at a subsidized price along with a carrier agreement. Spec-wise, the LG G5 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4 GB of RAM, a 5.3-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a pixel density of ~554 pixels per inch, and 32 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD by up to an additional 200 GB. These are somewhat standard specifications for a 2016 premium phone, but it does seem like the LG G5 is greater than the sum of its parts, as already mentioned in our first impressions preview.
