Samsung’s new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are two of the most anticipated devices of the year and they are not even widely available just yet. A small number of users who pre-ordered either of these phones have already started receiving them, and some users have been sharing their first thoughts along pictures and videos of these devices. There have already been some teardown videos of the Galaxy S7 phones that show their respective internals and some of the difficulties that might be present when attempting to repair or replace some of their internal parts. Samsung has now given these phones the teardown treatment while providing an explanation of the functionality of some components, boasting on the engineering challenge they both represented.
Let’s remember that the Galaxy S7 phones are water and dust resistant as they are IP68 certified, so a special water protective tape has been applied to the back of the front and rear glass panels of each phone, additionally, all of the ports have been made with anticorrosive materials and feature a Gore lining. The metallic part in the middle of the two layers of glass is called the bracket, and besides making the phones look good, the metallic bracket is quite strong in order to protect the phone’s internals against impacts. There’s a new cooling system in the Galaxy S7, which consists of a 0.4t heat pipe made out of a mesh metal structure that features a high porosity and high capillary force. This heat pipe transforms heat into vapor and then into a liquid to lower the phone’s temperature.
The motherboard integrates some components such as the microSD card slot, the mobile application processor (which provides 30 percent higher performance than the Galaxy S6, according to Samsung), UFS 2.0 flash memory and LPDDR4 RAM. The NFC and MST sensors used for Samsung Pay can be found there as well, along the wireless charger IC, heart rate monitor sensor and the USB connector. The front and rear cameras can be seen separate from the device as well as the bigger battery featured in these phones. The rear plate of the phone, which is the first thing that can be seen when taking off the glass on the back is separated into three parts, the top part houses the antennas, the middle one protects the motherboard while adding water protection and the 1.2 watt speaker is located at the bottom.
