Back on February 29th, some leaked screenshots of what were reported to be from an early build of Android N surfaced on the web showing off the new notification shade and quick settings toggles. In those screenshots the new toggle buttons for the quick settings menu were smaller than what they are currently, and it was mentioned that the quick settings toggles might be easier to modify. Earlier today and quite surprisingly, Google made Android N official when they announced the Developer Preview which has led to the discovery of all the new things to come, like multi-window support as well as picture-in-picture for Android TV devices.
Now that Android N is official and the developer preview is already being installed by users, a true first look at the new quick settings menu that comes along with the updated software displays that new smaller toggles are present and things are indeed more simple to modify and edit so that users can personalize things with less hassle, not that there was much of it before today. Once users get their hands on Android N, pulling down on the notification shade will reveal a slim bar of mini toggles as opposed to just the time, date, and battery icon information. The time and date are still there of course, albeit in smaller text at the very top edge of the bar, with the row of toggles sitting below them.
Since the toggles can be easily edited, users can select whichever mini toggles they wish to appear here when dragging down the panel, but the default orientation includes WiFi, mobile data, battery, do not disturb mode, and the flashlight toggle. Should users want to swap any or all of these out for different toggles, they can do so by hitting the new “edit” button that sits in the bottom right corner of the notification shade, which can be found by either dragging down on the notification shade a second time or by tapping the down arrow to reveal the full panel of quick settings tiles. Once the edit button is tapped, you can long press to drag and reorganize each tile, and whatever the first five happen to be will be the ones displayed in the bar of mini toggles. Since this is still a preview build and not the final software, Google could still opt to change some of this but they may also leave things as they are.
