Amazon offers a lot in the way of products through their website, but they’re also huge in the books department. Although the majority of their book sales happen through Kindle and on the web for physical copies, users can grab audio books from Amazon as well through the Audible service (which just recently gained support on Android Auto) and conveniently listen to any books they have in their library by using the mobile app. If you’re a member of Audible you may already be familiar with the app’s new beta offering called channels, which lets users listen to a variety of different things from news to original content and exclusives radio shows all streaming to your device through the Audible app.
Channels will also features ideas and entertainment alongside the news and exclusive shows, but there will be a much wider set of offerings as well giving users a hefty selection of stuff to listen to during pretty much any time of the day. Amazon states that there will be over 70 channels to choose from at the start although users can probably expect more to be added as Channels gets older. There will be content from well-known outlets too, like The Washington Post, The Onion, Ted Talks, The New York Times, Forbes, and more.
Channels will be free for Audible members so there’s no cost to the user whatsoever. There is one requirement though, which is that users will have to be on the most recent version of the Audible app if they want to find the Channels beta option in the slide out menu. Channels is designed to stream so users will generally need to have an internet connection if they want to enjoy content, but segments within any channel can be downloaded for offline use at any point if the user is expecting to be without internet later on. Streaming and listening to channels is also unlimited unless the Audible account is on hold, so users can go nuts and stream channels content all day every day if they have the capability. Channels are curated too, so users should feel like the experience is personalizzed to their own experience.
