While HTC gears up to unveil the all new HTC 10 this month on April 12th, Huawei is also preparing to show off a new smartphone of their own, the P9. Back at the end of last month Huawei officially confirmed that they would be holding an event to announce the upcoming P9 on April 6th which is this Wednesday. While not all of the details of the device have been confirmed as of yet, and likely won’t be until the announcement has been completed, there are a few things about the phone which are known to be expected features or pieces of hardware.
One of those details is the use of camera sensors from Leica, which an executive from Huawei has confirmed. There have also been press renders leaked that appear to show off the final design of the upcoming device, displaying the Leica logo as well as the dual-camera setup that’s been talked about in past rumors. Now two days away from the launch, a new video which has been posted up to YouTube today teases the dual-camera setup while also telling customers to “change the way they see the world.” While the dual cameras themselves have not bee confirmed alongside the announced Leica partnership with Huawei, the leaked images and press renders together with the new teaser video heavily suggests that dual camera sensors will be present on the device.
There are still quite a few unknowns in regards to the Huawei P9, such as the camera quality of the Leica sensors used which has been rumored to be 12MP or 13MP, as well as the rest of the hardware like the processor, the battery, screen size and screen type, and what version of the Android software that will be used inside of the device. Huawei is rumored to be using the Kirin 950 processor inside of the phone as well as packing it with 3GB and 4GB of RAM, a 5.2-inch Full HD display, and likely Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei’s usual EMUI on the top layer of the Android software. Based on the leaked renders the Huawei P9 could come with a metal body design, quite common in many of Huawei’s devices, and a fingerprint sensor will be placed on the back of the device.
